Our Ratings:
Overall:

A classic trip that everyone should make.
Activities:

Classic city—good history, fun shopping, good food.

Challenge:

Navigating the tube map may be the most challenging thing you do...unless you attempt to drive. They speaka de English there. That's good. Maybe that's why they named it England?

Food:

The Brits get slagged on for their food, but stick with some Indian or go to Wagamama and get yourself full of dumplings! Snag Krispy Kreme’s at Harrod’s cuz that’s crazy.

Lodging:

You can’t go wrong with Priceline. Staying in Kensington High Street keeps you near lots of goodies, but the tube takes you everywhere.

Fun:

Free museums, nice parks, the tube, great shopping, Big Ben…and home of the Jerry Springer Opera!

Bob and Amy visit:

LONDON, ENGLAND

Look kids, Big Ben, Parliament--it's LONDON!!!

Ah, yes, we wanted to see how much vacation we could squeeze into one week and headed off for a 2-day jaunt to London. What can you see in 2 days you ask? Plenty!

One of our first sites in London was on the Strand at the Adelphi Theatre--funny enough, they were playing Chicago, the musical. Coincidence? I think not. Truthfully, after 3,956 frequent flier miles, the last thing we wanted to see was a reference to Chi-town.

We were hungry and decided to eat at EAT (Excellence and Taste). That's EAT above, kind of a knock-off Starbucks, except the people wear funny little hats. We (Bob) also had to look at our map to figure out where we were going, and the closest McDonalds.

We arrived at 7:30am (GMT) and hopped on the BIG BUS tour through the city and saw Marble Arch, which originally stood in front of Buckingham Palace. That is, until the horses and carriage couldn't get through, so they moved it to Hyde Park. Jolly good. (No, that's not a homeless woman on the bus.)

A lovely view from atop a double-decker bus...and on your left, the headquarters for Bangladesh Airlines. Bangladesh Airlines? Where the heck is Bangladesh? And who flies there???

Bob: "I wonder what equipment they fly...hmmm...if this United thing doesn't work out, I'll keep them in mind."

Cheeeeeeese! (On your right, another old building.)

This building has a lot of historical significance, I'm sure. I just don't remember what it is.

ATTACK PIGEONS! TAKE COVER! For 30p you can feed these demonic creatures.

Look kids, Big Ben, Parliament!
