Our Ratings:
Overall:

Peru is a travellers paradise. From hiking the Inca Trail to riding the train, and hanging out in the tourist city of Cuzco.
Activities:

Fantastic view of the ancient city of Machu Picchu after a 4 day walk in the woods.

Challenge:

The Inca Trail has a fair amount of altitude that you need to be ready for, and also be ready to be stopped by 'workers' on deserted roads looking for beer money.

Food:

Good, hearty food on the hike. Nice pizzas in town. Avoid the cuy (guinea pig).

Lodging:

Lots of tent time on this trip. Cuzco is charming and walkable.

Fun:

It’s a historic hike that any fit person can do. The Andes are steep and lovely.

Our Trips:

What's the quickest way to Cuzco? A 3 hour flight to Miami, a 6 hour sit, a 5 1/2 hour flight to Lima on Lan Peru (see above), a 3 hour sit, a 3 hour mechanical delay in Lima, then an hour flight.

This is the plane we eventually took to Cuzco, officially the oldest B727-100 in existence.

Amy enjoying the 3 hour sit while they fixed our airplane.

Bob had a lot of faith in the South American Aviation Industry.

Our first view of the Peruvian Andes

After the first (of many) mini-bus rides from hell, we arrived at our hotel. From there, we went on a tour of Cuzco City.
