Overall:
The hills are alive!!! Unparalled scenery... at a price.
Activities:
Mountains a-plenty. Hiking is superb, including Eiger and Jungfrau. Great scenery, nice towns (except Geneva) and very tidy and efficient.
Challenge:
Huge mountains can be as physically demainding as you want (Eiger North Face BABY!), but most 'trekking' trails are so well marked and groomed, they're like sidewalks.
Food:
The downfall of Switzerland is the lack of palatable food. Not German or French, it’s really not so good. Rosti sounds like a good invention, but we had a bad run in and ended up eating McD’s a lot (cheap).
Lodging:
The hostels are great, if really expensive. Not fancy, but nice…but watch for the prison-like Geneva hostel. Hotels were way too expensive.
Fun:
Interlaken is the home of every extreme sport you can do. Frolicking in the mountains is really the whole point. Rent a bike in the city and check it out. Train around. It’s a great place if you like to hike.
